"It's Like a Machine, and It's Meant To Be Repeated" centers around the experimental collaboration of an unlikely creative pair; a furniture/ environmental designer with sculptural ambitions and a performance artist with social ambitions.  The collaboration began with each artist individually making a list of objects, drawings, performances, and videos that they have made, or plan to present within the gallery context during the length of the exhibition.  Each work was then reduced to it's most basic, symbolic meaning by it's creator and translated into a simple list of ideas. These ideas were then traded  and each artist was faced with a list of meanings on to which they had to imagine and create a representation of each concept.  "It's Like a Machine, and It's Meant to be Repeated" will result in the side by side presentation of each artist's varying products, highlighting the difficulty and embedded subjectivity of constructing and manipulating meaning while providing an artistic, social, and cultural form of triangulation.

Michael Mellon currently resides in Oakland, CA where he blends the boundaries of furniture and sculpture.  Creating installation pieces which adhere to furniture like qualities, he offers viewers a more sensational way of viewing art; by physical exploration.    His work has been exhibited at the Smithsonian, D.C., The Oakland Art Gallery, Oakland, CA, Transmissions Gallery, Oakland, CA, and at OpenHouse, Manhattan, NY.

Jacques Louis Vidal currently resides in New Haven, CT, where he is a MFA Candidate at Yale University.  He has shown and performed extensively throughout the U.S and abroad.  jacqueslouisvidal.com
