Jason Villegas returns to Okay Mountain with Impish Animal, once again immersing us through works on paper, sculpture and installation into a primordial sea of frenetic mutation and unrelenting consumption. Using the images and icons of both high and low consumer culture , Villegas re-imagines them with all the idealized noble qualities they attempt to encapsulate as well as the less glorified
aspects of nature still intact. These bizarre creatures run amok, acting out a vicious free market battle, devouring, multiplying and destroying each other in an epic struggle for dominance.
Jason Villegas has exhibited across the states in New York, Los Angeles, Houston, Austin, Chicago, Dallas, Kansas City, and San Antonio. Some selected solo exhibitions include "Repressed Burial Fantasy" at Okay Mountain, “ Absolute Destiny Apocalypse” at Deborah Colton Gallery, “Beast Taxidermy” at CSAW, “Growth Hormone Mutation Make-Over” at Plush, and “Romantic Hunger & Poverty Pains” at Montgomery College. Some selected group shows are “Young Latino Artists #10” at Mexic Arte Museum, “New American Talent # 19” at Art House, and “Brave New World” at McClain Gallery. Jason recently completed his MFA at Rutgers, State University of New Jersey. He lives and works in New York and is a staff member at Texas Firehouse Gallery in New York.
